* ASE MASTER CERTIFICATION
Here’s how ASE certification works: Prospective candidates register for and take one or more of ASE’s 40-plus exams. The tests are grouped into specialties.
The ASE Automobile/ Truck Test Series include eight certification exams: Engine Repair (A1), Automatic Transmission/Transaxle (A2), Manual Drive Train and Axles (A3), Suspension and Steering (A4), Brakes (A5), Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6), Heating and Air Conditioning (A7), and Engine Performance (A8). Those who pass all eight exams are recognized as ASE-certified Master Automobile Technicians. The ASE Advanced Engine Performance Specialist (L1) test a technicians’ knowledge in the diagnosis and repair of computer-controlled engine systems. In addition, the test measures technicians’ abilities in diagnosing the cause of high-emission failures. This is especially important in states where basic I/M (inspection/maintenance), enhanced I/M (ASM or IM240), and OBD testing programs are in effect.
Upon passing the exam and after providing proof of two years of relevant work experience, the test taker becomes ASE certified. Certification, however, is not for life. To remain certified, those with ASE credentials must be retested every five years.
Motorists benefit from ASE certification. It is a valuable yardstick by which to measure the knowledge and skills of individual technicians as well as the commitment to quality of the repair facility employing ASE-Certified professionals.
Hi,
I bought my Chevy Camero in 2012, it has around 4500 miles and shows Oil life 25%. Not sure when is the appropriate time for oil change and regular car service.
Thanks
